Greenbriar’s 2025
Outdoor Nature Summer Camp Information

Monday through Thursday we will explore, create, and connect while we are in the beautiful woods of Greenbriar Community School’s 170 acres. At Greenbriar’s outdoor nature summer camp, we will have so much fun with games, art, free exploration, and learning about the fascinating world of nature. This includes natural sciences, as well as awareness, primitive, and survival skills. Every afternoon we will get wet in the creek or in the refreshing pool!

Survival 101

Survival 101 week will give us the opportunity to discuss and experience all the ways we can stay outdoors and thrive in nature! Encouragement of empowerment and curiosity will guide us during this week, as we focus on how to use a variety of tools, basic shelter building, basic first aid, different ways to start a fire, cordage, wild edibles, how to choose a campsite, how to stalk and camouflage, and more! Be prepared to connect to our ancestors and the land around us, as we discover all the resources that nature can provide.

Nature Science and Connections

Nature Science and Connections week will help us connect more to the outdoors, each other, and ourselves. As we find those connections, we will focus on awareness skills and games practice, learn the cycles of what makes plants grow and the land thrive, find links with nature and science using sensory and tactile connections, and more. Be prepared for kids to find many ways how science and nature are connected, as well as for themselves to feel more connected to the outdoors!

Power of the Sun

Fun in the Sun Week will allow kids to discover the amazing star that we call our sun, its great power, and explore ways we can have fun in it. This week we will explore basic navigation and how we can use the sun and stars, ways to stay cool, explore sun experiments, use our engineering skills for building activities, have lots of summer fun, and more!

Adventure Survivalist

Adventure Survivalists week will help us grow further in survival and primitive skills knowledge. Throughout the week, we will learn how to use tools that will help us build outside, go over fire starters, how to make salves and tinctures, we'll go on edible and medicinal plant walks, A-frame shelter building, possibly a dyeing project, and more! Be prepared to work hard to expand your outdoor skills, connect with nature and its possibilities, and be able to thrive in the beautiful outdoors of Central Texas!
**Although it is not necessary, it is recommended to enroll in Survival 101 week prior to Adventure Survivalist week.

Texas Wildlife and Habitats

Texas Wildlife and its Habitats Week will allow kids to get to know Central Texas more, including the environment, climate, soil, and rocks, as well as we'll explore its wildlife that thrive in it. During the week, we will check out and compare scats and tracks, feel pelts of Texas' wildlife, discuss different habitats, look for evidence of wildlife during hikes, discuss wildlife hazards including venomous snakes, learn about the rocks below our feet, and more! You won't want to miss this week as we become more familiar with our environment and be able to step into the lives of the hunter-gatherers in Texas before us.
